- Description: Enough is a quiet word, and perhaps the most important one in any serious conversation about how to live.

Enough is a quiet word. It does not make for good slogans, and it is almost impossible to sell. But I have come to think it is the most important word in any serious conversation about how to live.

To say that you have enough is not to be satisfied with everything. It is to name a limit, deliberately, and to stop there. It is the opposite of the drift that carries so many of us from one more project to one more commitment to one more year of working a little later than we meant to.

I try to set "enough" in advance, before the pressure arrives. Enough hours today. Enough income this year to do what matters. Enough guests, enough projects, enough words. The numbers are not magic, and I revise them, but the act of choosing them turns a vague unease into a decision.

A line, once drawn, gives you something rare: the freedom to stop without guilt, and to see what the rest of the day is for.
